This book ended with the author telling one more story about how school girls had to be separated by Hutus and Tutsis but they refused and got shot for doing that "But the students had refused. At both schools, the girls said they were simply Rwandans, so they were beaten and shot indiscriminately." (Gourevitch 353). This book matters because it tells the stories of so many people Hutu or Tutsi and it gives different perspectives of the book. This is a story of Rwandas history and we can learn from their mistakes so it doesn't happen again. The most valuable idea from this book is that you really don't deserve to be treated badly even though you are different. This book is valuable to this day because we need to learn from it and not make the same mistakes again, also it will keep the memories of all these people that survived this tragedy.

The Rwandan genocide happened a long time ago but, that doesn't mean that there isn't issues relating to the Rwandan genocide. The Rwandan genocide is where two ethnic groups the "Hutus" and the "Tutsis" fight against each other and 800,000 people died. There is still problems to this day in Rwanda. One of their presidents fled to South Africa and on New Years Day he was found dead in a hospital. Everyone is Rwanda wanted to kill him and were very mad. "I actually wish Rwanda did kill him." (Vice News 2017).
My book is about the Rwandan Genocide. The Rwandan Genocide happened in Africa in a place called Rwanda. There is two ethnic groups the "Hutus" and the "Tutsis". The Hutus are the majority of the population, and they don't like the Tutsis at all. So they decided to shoot down a plane that the President was on and, they blamed it on the Tutsis. "a plane carrying Habyarimana and Burundi's president Cyprien Ntaryamira was shot down over Kigali, leaving no survivors" (History 2017). This is what mainly caused the genocide to happen. In my book "We wish to inform you that tomorrow we will be killed with our families" the author goes to visit Rwanda after the genocide and he sees how bad it was and how sad it was. "I saw, though he did not notice, that his foot had rolled on a skull and broken it" (Gourevitch 20). There was two points of view in the country and it depended on what side of the ethnic group you were on. The first point of view was from the Tutsis that were fighting against the Hutus and they wanted peace and freedom. The second point of view was from the Hutus who thought they were always right and they wanted to kill all the Tutsis. The character in my book which is the author he had the perspective on both sides of the genocide.
Introduction North Carolinians recycle 85.4 pounds of materials a second (RE3 2017). This recycling saves 75 percent more energy than making the material with raw materials but we throw away more than 752 pounds of trash a second. That's almost nine times more than we recycle (RE3 2017). This affects the environment because of how much trash we throw away instead of recycling it which will then affect us because of all the pollution. We are interested in this topic because when we walk around wake county we see trash all over the place. When you are driving you see trash scattered around the highway or when you are walking in downtown Raleigh you see trash on the sidewalk and on the road. Instead of recycling that piece of paper it's now polluting the earth. We should all care about this issue because we are polluting the environment and we could all help with recycling a bit more and if we all don't do that we could help save thousands of trees and water. According to re3 , “only half of aluminum cans are recycled despite a statewide disposal ban on the material. Aluminum and glass companies rely heavily on secondary materials for their product, and many plastics manufacturers also depend on recovered material.” (RE3 2017). This means that if we recycle more aluminum we could be saving thousands of raw materials. Also recycling lets other people have jobs. “Recycling in North Carolina is a job creator and a growing part of our state’s economy. Recycling employs more than 15,000 North Carolinians and recycling jobs have increased about 48 percent in the last ten years.” (RE3 2017). So we are also helping our community with giving other people jobs. Recycling helps out with a lot of things. The issue Recycling saves energy and by using recycled material we save on energy consumption. As more and more people stop recycling or don’t do it at all negative things could happen to the community. By throwing everything away and not reducing, reusing, or recycling them it can cause the landfill to build up and start to smell horrible. All of these things could end up being toxic from all the harmful chemicals coming from styrofoam and also destroying habitats. Without recycling it could pollute the air. This means bad things are put into the air which can affect the air that we breath. Burning trash is a massive source of air pollution. About 2.9 million people die each year from air pollution, but recycling is one way we can stop air pollution. If this problem is not taken care of the soil could be affected by the harmful chemicals and destroy habitats or even pollute the air that we breath. This could affect our natural environment such as habitat destruction, harmful chemical, and global warming. All of those things are caused by deforestation from un recycled material. The solution Recycling is a big problem in our community but people are trying to help recycle more often. One program, Feed The Bin (Dunstan, 2015), is a school recycling program in Wake County. It's purpose is to have more materials recycled in schools and provide students with education regarding waste and recycling. Since 2004, over 175 schools have and still are participating in the program. More than 10 million pounds of paper have been recycled through this program since it began. It also won an award for “Best School Recycling Program in the U.S.” This is because the students are excited about recycling. Some schools hold contests to see who recycles the most so the competition gets big. In other schools the students get to make advertisements like newspapers about recycling. The stuff that they get to do motivates them to want to recycle. Wake county (Walston, 2015) is also playing a part in recycling. Everyday they go around and collect recycling from different locations throughout the county. Without them we would have to drop off our recycling which would be very inconvenient. If we didn't have the county to help out, we would recycle a lot less so they are helping us out a lot more than we think. Even though there are programs and people trying to help recycle more, there is still a need for help in our community. According to re3 (2017), with everyone trying to help, we still throw away nine times more trash than we do recycle. Also things that should be able to be recycled such as construction paper, pizza boxes, and paper towels can still not be recycled. These things should be recycled but it's against the rules of Wake county (Wake County 2016). We need for these materials to be recycled because otherwise they are just going to the trash when they have the potential to be recycled. Conclusion To help with this issue we could set up more recycling bins and collectors around the school. These bins would be able to take everything instead of the Feed The Bin program that doesn't take bottles, construction paper, cardboard, and other commonly recyclable items. These bins will be placed in the classrooms so teachers can supervise what is being placed in the bins. These bins will be set out for the last couple weeks of school and over those weeks we will collect the bags of recycling. At the end of the year we will take them to 2405 Wade Avenue - 27607(City Of Raleigh, 2017). Our goal is to end with 125 full bags of recyclables. To see the whole plan see our Action Plan. March 29, 2017 <http://www.cityofmonroe.org/index.aspx?NID=407> Animal cruelty is abusing animals intentionally and on purpose. In Raleigh NC there is a ton of animal abuse. There is probably someone abusing a little puppy or kitten right now. This all is done very secretly and far away as possible from the police. Animal Abuse is illegal and if they are caught they will be in serious trouble. I am interested in animal cruelty because I love animals and you probably do too. Even if you don't, these animals have done nothing mean to the humans and those people that are abusing the animals are doing it just because they want to. We are affected by this because if you ever decide to get yourself a dog or a cat you might try to get an abused animal because you feel sorry for them but they will be scared of you or try to bite you and they can seriously hurt you because they think you will hurt them. We should all care about this issue because these animals could have been part of you family but now they are hurt and some of them have died, a lot of people don't care because it's just a couple of animals but its not and there's a ton of animals out there being abused in all sorts of ways. If nobody cares because its not that big of a deal nobody will be there to help these animals. But you can help by volunteering at animal shelters, or even adopting a dog if you up for the responsibility. If you don't have that much time on your hands you can donate some dollars to the animal shelters to help them out.
If you've ever been driving on a highway and looked outside you have probably seen litter on the side of the road. This issue is hurting animals and people in our community. I am interested in this topic because this impacts our lives and damages our earth. This impacts us because if all the sudden you are driving on the road and there is a big trash bag sitting there that can cause you to go around it and you can get into a car crash. These things are very dangerous and can cause a lot of car crashes. All that litter can easily go into the, lakes and rivers which can impact our water quality. Others should care about this issue because it impacts our animals and water quality. The litter itself impacts the earth and can destroy the soil that we use to farm. So now you're probably wondering what you can do to help right? Well the easiest thing to do is to go out there on the highway ask some friends to help and just start picking up the trash, but there are so many more things you can do if you don't want to pick up trash. For example you can make signs and put them around town saying to stop throwing out trash out the windows. You can DIY little trash cans that you can sell or give away. There are so many things that you can do to help so don't be afraid to.
